Valentine's Day Party

This post is a little late but I haven't had time to really sit down to write about it. :)

Bella is in 1st grade this year.  I was chosen to be the room mom for her class this year.  It hasn't been nearly as bad as I thought it might be.  Luckily I have a friend that has a child a year older than Bella that was able to give me several great pointers and since she is so amazing I gladly let her share any ideas she was willing to share with me.

The Valentine's day party was a lot of fun.  The teachers in 1st grade decided to do a pizza party which was super easy and then each class did what they wanted to as far as sweets go.  A friend of mine got married a couple of years ago and at the reception they did a "sweets bar."  It was a really neat idea so I talked to Bella's teacher about doing that for the dessert part of the party and she was excited about it.  It gave the kids the freedom to make their own little bags of sweets while also giving them a task where they wouldn't eat so much candy.....or at least hopefully not.  I had the moms bring stuff like gummy bears, marshmallows, m&m's, and skittles.  We didn't do a whole lot of candy but enough to give them a few choices.

I also took on the task of making boxes for all of the kids to put their valentines in.  I wasn't thinking when I volunteered about how time consuming it could have been but I'm still glad I did it. I had a lot of fun because I love crafting so much and the kids really seemed to like their boxes.  I used shoe boxes for most of the boxes and when I started running out of shoe boxes my genius sister mentioned using cereal boxes and I wished then I would've done cereal boxes from the beginning. Oh well! I'll remember that for next time. :)

The party was a success! Below are a few pictures from the fun day.

That moment....

That moment when you realize your child is just like you and your mom really must have been praying that you would have a child just like you.

That moment when you tell your "mini me" that it's best to not even try because most likely you've already done it and weren't successful in being sneaky about it and you are warning her that she's going to get caught every time!

That moment when you realize that just like it did with you it's going in one ear and right out the other.

That moment when you realize you better get your prayer life in check!

That moment when your mom can do nothing but laugh when you tell her stories about your child and just say "yep"

I guess I better work on my amends list to my mom some more :)

Dancing the night away

Tonight Bella's school had their 1st Daddy Daughter dance.  Those of you who know my husband know that he's not much of a social butterfly so I was very surprised when he said that he would go.  Well I wasn't really surprised because there is one thing for sure about Mr. Davis and that is that he LOVES his daughters and would do anything for them.  That is one of the things I love most about him!  He did wait to see if Bella brought it up before volunteering to go and she did so he agreed.

Then we got free tickets to go see the Dallas Stars play tonight and Bella decided she wanted to do that instead of the dance but then today after school decided she really wanted to go to the dance so off mom went on a frantic search to find a last minute wrist corsage for daddy to give his date and make sure we had a dress for her to wear and all that good stuff. :)

There were NO wrist corsages at any of the florists in Forney.  I wasn't surprised but I had hoped they would have something they could throw together real quick like for me but that wasn't happening. So off to Brookshire's I went where I found a couple of roses and some baby's breath and decided I could attempt to make my own.  I definitely won't be going in the floral business but here is what I was able to throw together.

Then we looked through Bella's closet to find the perfect dress which happened to be the dress she wore for Christmas this year. Thankfully she wasn't being high maintenance and decided to wear a dress she already had. So we got her dressed, fixed her hair and mommy let her wear just an itty bit of lipstick and an itty bit of mascara.

Then she headed to the living room to show daddy how beautiful she looked.  She had an awesome time at the dance.  Jim said they didn't do much dancing which I'm sure just broke his heart. ;) She had a great time though and that was all that matters.  He even scored a few brownie points for giving up tickets to see the Stars play to go to a dance with his baby girl.

Here are a few more pictures of daddy & Bella's first dance.

Date my spouse?

Before I was married I used to hear people talk about dating their spouse. I would mostly think how dumb that sounded. I mean you live together, you're married, why would you need to date them?
Well now I'm married and have been for almost 9 years and I get it now. I love my children and I love spending time and energy with them but sometimes it's just nice to get away with the hubster and spend some much needed alone time together. I feel like we can so easily get lost in being Bella and Jenna's parents that we forget we are Jim and Tamara's spouse, I know I do. So last night we got a much needed date night. I won a prize at my company Christmas party that included dinner and a one night stay at a local hotel. My precious sister offered to keep the girls for me and me and Jim got to spend an evening going on a date. It was nice to get a little break and just spend time one on one with the man I love!
